Abstract This study presents the impact of near-field and far-field earthquakes on seismic design Intermediate Moment Resisting Frame (IMRF) Special (SMRF) structures through FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) P695 methodology to highlight importance probabilistic collapse as well performance factors these structures. The purpose this is investigate steel intermediate special moment resisting frame systems most common structural in urban areas order assess used for using nonlinear static dynamic analysis methods. In regard, representatives low-rise high-rise buildings, archetypes with 5-, 10- 15- story frames are designed then models developed OpenSees software. Nonlinear analyses performed overstrength ductility systems. effects ground motions investigated incremental analysis. These 22 20 motion records methodology. results show that have serious impacts probability superiority over quantified terms safety margin median capacity under both earthquakes. Finally, indicate response modification introduced code acceptable motions. However, sites while SMRF system meets requirements methodology, IMRF does not satisfy criteria.
